10. First case of swine flu detected in Reading
Get Wokingham, Saturday 16 May 2009A Reading man has been diagnosed with Swine Flu.
A statement released by NHS Berkshire West this afternoon confirmed the man, who has not been named, is someone who has recently returned from the United States and has since been prescribed with anti-viral drugs.
The man – who is the first from the area to have contracted influenza A [H1N1] – is said to have contracted mild symptoms of the condition and is now recovering at home.
Those in close contact with the patient have been identified and are being treated with anti-virals as a precaution.
No work places or schools have been affected and the public is being urged not to panic about this incident.
