If I could ask the service providers who have anything to do with disabled children one thing, it would be to not make us have to chase them up.

43. When simply going to the loo can be pants

My daughter, despite the severity of her disability, uses the loo. She has a specially adapted seat but needs to be lifted on to it by a strong adult. She is able to indicate when she needs to go, but she is not able to wait as long as the rest of us, so you need to be fairly quick.

My daughter, like lots of disabled children who I have met, has the drive and determination of an Olympic athlete.

45. When a weekend away is too much to ask

Imagine you wanted to go away for a romantic weekend with your partner. It's been a while and you've had your ups and downs, so this weekend away is pretty important.

46. Putting the boot in just to get a pair of shoes

When the average child needs a new pair of shoes, it's a fairly easy process. Even if they can't stand being dragged around the shops, balk at the sight of the foot measuring machine and refuse to try on anything remotely sensible, it can usually be done inside an afternoon.
