Drivers to get red card over parking
May 29, 2008
Anti-social parkers are being given the red light in a bid to curb their bad behaviour.
Wokingham Borough Council’s community wardens have produced a leaflet outlining a traffic light system for more courteous parking.
The red indicates a place where people cannot park because it is dangerous or obstructing a footway or other area.
Amber means to think before parking and green urges people to park in a more considerate manner so pedestrians can cross safely.
Community wardens are carrying copies of the leaflet and are putting them on cars they find parked inconsiderately as a gentle reminder to drivers.
Gemma Herbert, community warden, said: “A lot of people complain to us about inconsiderate parking and it is one of the most common forms of anti-social behaviour we encounter but many people just don’t think about what they are doing when they park.
“We cannot fine people for parking badly or enforce rules ourselves, but we can hopefully make people aware of the problems they cause.”
