Ahoy thar for a day of fun!By Lorna Catling
December 03, 2008
Christmas spirit took over Wokingham town centre on Sunday, with Father Christmas and a pantomime theme bringing festive fun to the annual winter carnival.
Although the weather was not on their side, organisers praised this year’s Wokingham Winter Carnival as the best yet.
Sunday’s games, stalls and procession was preceded by the annual carnival auction, which took place on Thursday at Wokingham Town Hall in Market Place.
Despite the tough financial climate, every lot was sold and organisers were pleased to raise just under £1,800.
The carnival committee said it expects to have raised slightly less money this year, however members have been touched by the generosity of people despite the credit crunch.
The event raised money for three key charities, but other organisations also fundraised with stalls and collections in the procession.
