Brave Tia wins Chris Tarrant Pride of Reading Award
November 23, 2012
The town's real stars were shining brightly this afternoon when the 2012 Pride of Reading Awards were announced.
A host of people who until today thought they were ordinary collected honours for their extraordinary bravery, kindness or contribution to the community.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant, one of Reading's proudest sons, made the presentations.
He told the audience, which included the all-important sponsors of the award categories: " You will come away feeling very proud of the human race."
And he was right.
There were cheers and more than a few tears as Reading's true heroes were introduced and their humbling stories told.
This year's new Chris Tarrant Pride of Reading Award went to six-year-old Tia Price, of Rivermead Road, who underwent a heart transplant in 2010. She represented Great Ormond Street Hospital in the Transplant Games just two years later and won a medal.
To read more about brave Tia and find out who else collected one of the prestigious awards, see the special supplement in Wednesday's Reading Post.
