Council: We will not pay in 20 days
November 11, 2008
Bracknell Forest Council will not promise to pay its invoices to small businesses within 20 days, despite pleas from a business organisation.
The Federation of Small Businesses has written to every council in the country asking them to make the 20-day pledge, after Brentwood Council led the way and agreed to do so.
But Bracknell council said this week that it would not change its current system.
A spokesperson said: “We will continue to guarantee payment within the normal terms agreed with creditors and are not aware of any current issues with this agreement.”
The FSB’s letter followed a statement from Secretary of State for Business Peter Mandelson, who said: “Central Government has committed to paying businesses within 10 days – and we’re urgently speaking to the wider public sector to extend this commitment.
“We want everyone in the supply chain to pay their bills more quickly.”
