Cold weather causes severe disruptions to trains

Passengers will be delayed this morning as icy rail conditions cause severe disruptions.

Services between Wokingham and Reading have been stalled as trains struggle to take on electrical power due to the frozen tracks.

The delays are expected to last until 12pm.

The service between Ascot and Guildford was also affected this morning but lines have now been reopened.

I saw two people fall over at Wokingham station during my hour wait for a train this morning! I was nearly the third!

Got in my car at 08:20 this morning in Great Hollands and there was no sign of ice so perhaps it did only come down in a few places. Not even a hint of it. Overheard someone in the pub saying he had to scrape his car though. Weird weather we are having!!

i Fell flat on my backside this morning stepping outside my flat saving my wife from falling herself. It was that horrid frozen rain and our front porch area was a complete ice rink.

Clearly Bruce, it was. Perhaps not in your little corner of the house where you hammer out useless comments to articles, but in other places it was very icy.

What's more surprising is that SWT weren't able to predict this and run the usual clearing services. Some very dangerous platforms out there too - multiple reports of people falling over on un-gritted platforms.
