Slow-changing Winnersh lights will be altered
By Jon NurseFebruary 28, 2013
Slow-changing lights frustrating drivers when roads are deserted at night won’t be altered by the council.
Councillor Tom McCann urged for traffic lights at the junction of Winnersh IQ, The Bader Way and Loddon Bridge Road, to be tweaked at a full council meeting on Thursday, but lost out in a vote that backed officers’ recommendation not to change the system.
The lights use a MOVA system to continuously adjust signal timings, a strategy that is efficient during peak hours but can leave motorists waiting at red lights for around 30 seconds when the roads are quiet.
Officers advised it is not possible to run the lights on a part-time basis. An average of 340 vehicles per hour are estimated to pass through the lights between 8pm and 6am.
Cllr McCann said: “A small change, even if it just affected one in 10 vehicles, could improve 120,000 journeys by just a tweak in the system.”

Fed-up - You spotted that too then! Slightly confusing, keeps the reader on their toes though when the headline doesn't match the story.
