Construction traffic for the Broadmoor Hospital redevelopment will avoid going through Crowthorne as soon as a roundabout is built.

Bracknell Forest Council’s planning committee unanimously voted in favour of a construction traffic plan while the development takes place, when it met last Thursday.

It is expected construction traffic for the initial works will travel through the village until August, with an average of 20 deliveries per day.

Traffic disruption likely due to Broadmoor work

Once an access road and roundabout are completed, major deliveries will be via Foresters Way through an access road to Upper Broadmoor Road.

Deliveries will be limited to between 7.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays, with larger deliveries scheduled to miss peak school run times and no deliveries at weekends.

Councillor Cliff Thompson said a new junction created by the new roundabout in Foresters Way was going to be ‘chaos’ and called for arrangements to control traffic.

Planning chairman Cllr Colin Dudley said the applicant would have to come back to the committee with ideas on how they would manage a proposed marshall-controlled scheme on the access road.

The plans also include a barrier stopping public access from Kentigern Drive to the access road and new signs from the A3095 onto the site.

The 1km access road will cut through a public right of way, which will be maintained during the works by a marshall.

The Highway Authority did not raise any objections adding: “The concept of temporary access from the village until the access roundabout is suitably complete is acceptable as long as the time frame of use is minimised.

“The route from the south and west using Lower Broadmoor Road is the best solution as it removes the impact on the High Street which has higher volumes of pedestrians and movement through the day.”
