Wokingham Half Marathon road closures

By Laura Herbert
February 08, 2013

Thousands of runners will line up to take part in the Wokingham Half Marathon on Sunday.

All 3,000 entries were snapped up by early January by runners keen to complete the 13.1-mile course, which starts at Cantley Park, in Twyford Road, at 10am.

This year’s event is again sponsored by Mizuno, David Cliff, Zone Securities, Mazfit, Rodger Duckworth and Mitsubishi Motors, who helped launch the race with Wokingham Borough mayor Councillor Bob Wyatt on January 21.

Last year’s winner Phil Wicks, who set a course record of one hour, three minutes and 11 seconds, will not be competing to retain his title.

Traffic may be heavy from around 8.30am until the start time and between 1pm and 2pm. Parking is not available at Cantley Park, but free parking can be found at town centre car parks and Emmbrook School, in Emmbrook Road.

A number of roads will be closed. They are:

Bell Foundry Lane

Warren House Road

Maidenhead Road

Forest Road from A321 Twyford Road to Binfield Road

B3018 The Straight Mile from Maidenhead Road to Hinton Road and to Darvills Lane

Darvills Lane

Hungerford Road between Darvills Lane and B3018

Hinton Road

Broadcommon Road from Wokingham Road to Nelsons Lane

Islandstone Lane from Broadcommon Road to Nelsons Lane

Nelsons Lane excluding the section to Pound Lane

n Broadcommon Lane

Its a shame the locals have to act like idiots though. It is only once a year and only for just over half a day. There is no need to the locals to be downright rude to the volunteers who help make this event viable.
