Council accused of deliberately delaying Woodley public toilet

By Jon Nurse
February 06, 2013

Environment bosses have been accused of deliberately delaying the delivery of a public toilet in Woodley.

Ward member Councillor Lesley Hayward pushed executive member Cllr Angus Ross for a date when a freestanding loo could be installed in the town centre, at Wokingham Borough’s Executive meeting last Thursday.

Cllr Ross said: “I’m delighted to announce we are working with Woodley and Wokingham Town Councils to jointly deliver toilets in these towns at the best possible budget for our taxpayers.”

Cllr Hayward expressed her frustration that a council report on Local Loos hadn’t been delivered in November and that according to the town council no more progress will be made until proposals are put forward from the Woodley Community Forum.

She said: “I believe this is a delaying tactic on your behalf which is depriving Woodley residents of the service they want and need.

“I can see no reason for you not to make a decision on Local Loos in Woodley.”

Bingley - I have not been quiet but I have been working behind the scenes to get this though the "system". Sometimes it is better to get on with the job than ponitificating publicly and never doing anything!

This included making sure that this topic was aired at the independently led Woodley Town Forum and the Town Centre Management Initiative. I hoped you attended some of these forums to express your opinion. If you had you would have heard my support for the new approach which I have consistently said over the last 12 months.

Where are the Tory cllr's who are supposed to represent their residents why aren't they fighting to provide toilets for Woodley - that's because they are fighting to to provide toilets for Wokingham Town. Nice to see they have their priorities sorted

You may not have noticed but the council has only just got round to announcing a toilet for Wokingham Town. We can anticipate many delays before that reaches implementation.

Simple solution Find your local councillor's address and if you need to go ..Go and knock on their door and request a loo break ...
