Double yellow lines could come to Woodley road to solve football parking problem

By Jon Nurse
February 04, 2013

Double yellow lines could be put down at the junctions of Haddon Drive to tackle obstructive football parking.

Investigations are ongoing into adding restrictions at the street’s junctions with Rowan Drive and Ravensbourne Drive to combat parking at the weekend.

Wokingham Borough Council has also decided not extend Bader Way’s entrance lanes to the A329(M) as it was considering, after it concluded a project would involve widening the bridge at a cost of more than £1 million.

I like the phrase "...to find extra parking within Woodford Park". It's not as if it has been misplaced or is hiding under an overgrown bush. Why can't people say what they mean, which would be more along the lines of "Woodley Town Council needs to give serious consideration to ldigging up part of the green and laying an extended car park." Ok it sounds less cuddly but looking at the satellite images (good old Google Maps) it certainly seems like the only option for extra parking.

All well and good with cones, but again if not enforced then pointless.

For football there's loads of car parks, buses as alternatives.

No such options for the Saturday morning crowd at Woodley, although I'm sure many of them could manage to walk there. Haddon Drive becomes a single carriageway which means real problems if you've got a car going in each direction

How about doing what is done in roads near Majeski on match days - put our some cones. That way the locals can park as necessary the rest of the time which does not usually cause problems for anyone. I am pretty sure you could even get the locals to help with this at no cost because it would be to their advantage.

I wonder if you all realise that Woodford Park is owned by Woodley Town Council. So any extension to parking on site needs to be considered and agreed by them.

Wokingham Borough has no authority here. However, the impact of the inconsiderate parking continues and hits the residents. Therefore the only option available to the Borough Council is to consider the yellow lines.

But I do agree with some of you that the real solution is to find extra parking within Woodford Park. I wish the Town Council would look at this option.

Typical backwards thinking, there is clearly a need for an additional parking, rather than try and find alternatives and help the people who are trying to park. Come and speak to the people when we are down there on a Saturday and try to work things out, far easier to just enforce a load of parking restrictions. Total rubbish.

We were told not to park on the pavement or TVP would issues parking fines, yet I notice that the residents park on the pavement during the week, but no one is worried about, a rather selective attitude I feel.

Enforcement is unlikely to happen as its the Police's responsibility in Wokingham area.

They've got bigger fish to fry.

Maybe WBC should of asked the company responsible for IQ to stump up the cash when they revamped winnersh triangle - Oh no too simple. Does this also mean that the new build at sandford farm can no longer go ahead as planned?

Only worth doing if they are actually monitored and offenders hit in the pocket.

Would make more sense to flatten the big hill on the left as you enter the park from Haddon Drive and create extra parking.
