Rose Street to close for two weeks from Thursday

By Laura Herbert
January 23, 2013

Rose Street at its junction with Broad Street will be closed for almost two weeks from tomorrow while work to upgrade the town’s water mains continues.

South East Water has so far laid 230 metres of new water main in Rose Street but work is now nearing the junction, before construction in Broad Street is set to begin next month.

James Smith, South East Water delivery manager, said: “As this is such a narrow section of road, we need to ensure the safety of both the public and our contractors while we work, unfortunately this means closing Rose Street at the junction with Broad Street. I apologise for the disruption this may cause and reassure the community our contractors will work as hard as they can to complete this section of work as quickly as possible.”

Traders call for support during seven weeks of road closures

The junction will be closed until Wednesday, February 6. Drivers heading into Rose Street will need to use Cross Street. Exiting Rose Street will continue as normal at the Wiltshire Road junction.

Businesses and the public car park will remain open.
