By Laura Herbert
January 18, 2013

Gritters have been out and about in Wokingham today as heavy snowfall fell across the borough.

As well as main roads, pavements in Wokingham town centre, Woodley and Wargrave have all been gritted.

A number of schools closed early and Loddon Valley, St Crispin's and Carnival Pool Leisure Centres will all close at 6pm and are expected to open at 8am tomorrow.

The park and ride is currently closing and will not be open on Saturday.

Wokingham Borough Council has also issued a notice to anyone who has not had their waste and recycling collected as scheduled today, that it will be collected on Monday.

The borough's amenity service in Avery Corner, Billing Avenue, Arbor Lane and Allnatt Avenue scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.

Due to the weather, Wokingham Town Council has cancelled the councillor's surgery due to take place tomorrow and the Information Centre based at the town hall, in Market Place, will be shut on Saturday.

All main roads were very good on my journey home on Friday afternoon, much better than I expected. I think both Wokingham and Reading did a good job.

Gritting the roads and cars going over the gritted roads helped keep it clear.

unfortunately grit and salt only works if cars move over it. If snow settles on it, it isn't much use.

'The borough's amenity service'...... Well that's as clear as mud. What's wrong with Community Manned Refuse Vehicles?

If only WBC had read and acted upon this and the numerous other warnings - clowns

If WBC has paid people to grit roads and clear paths today those people should be out of a job. Or perhaps they worked from home today as well.

I walked into town today at around 16.00 and there was no evidence of effective road gritting on my route. Much of the pathways in the town centre were not cleared. WBC had loads of notice but failed to act upon it.

WBC should leave the green spaces as they are because they can't cope with the roads and paths they have now!
