Power cut hits 3,800 properties in Earley

By Jon Nurse
January 17, 2013

Thousands of homes in Earley lost power this afternoon, with hundreds still waiting for a return of supply.

Around 3,800 properties lost their electricity supply at 2pm due to a technical fault in the Earley area.

The supplier estimates that 300 properties remain without power.

A Southern Electric spokesman said: "Engineers have been on site since 2pm and are trying to establish the location of the fault.

"We are doing everything we can to get customers back on and many have been re-routed with power from different parts of the network. Customers will notice power flickering for a couple of seconds during the re-routing process.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."

I have to say that my child's school rarely shuts because of snow, much to the annoyance of the children but many thankful working parents. Homework is done. When I was young, if it snowed the school stayed open, as long as the were enough teachers to supervise the kids that got there. We got the table tennis out, the library was opened up to everyone and teachers helped with homework. It meant that parents didn't have to worry about missing work because the school was closed.

Still without power so we must be one of the 300 left. It is starting to get a bit cold and have a child doing homework in the dark. Hope they hurry up.
