By Jon Nurse

A traveller site will expand into green belt land to safely accommodate its families.

Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee approved plans to expand Twyford Orchards in London Road, Twyford, last night.

None of the pitches on the site meet the minimum standard of the council’s latest fire safety regulations, prompting plans to extend onto neighbouring land and increase the number of pitches from 16 to 20.

The council has agreed to purchase a long lease of additional green belt land, which was viewed as acceptable given the 'exceptional' circumstances.
