New location for annual fun dayBy Laura Herbert

The town’s annual Fun Day will take place on a new date and in a new location from next year.
Every year, families descend on Howard Palmer Gardens in the town centre on the first Bank Holiday in May for the free one-day event for children.
But from 2014, the community event will be moved to Langborough Recreation Ground, due to landscaping works in Howard Palmer Gardens.
The Wokingham Town Council-organised event usually takes place on the first Saturday in May, on the same Bank Holiday weekend as the town’s May Fayre, and offers activities including fairground rides and children’s entertainers.
However, next year the fun day will take place on Saturday, May 31, after the council received comments from families that they had to come into the town centre twice on one weekend for the events.
The decision to change the venue and date was made by Wokingham Town Council’s arts and culture committee when it met last Wednesday.
Cllr Stan Hetherington said: “I’m against it going to Langborough Rec, I think Elms Field is a better location.”
Cllr UllaKarin Clark added: “But for the next three to four years Elms Field is going to be a building site and we need to find somewhere for 2014.”
Cllr Dale Green said: “I don’t think Langborough is as good as Elms Field, but given that is going to be churned up where is it going to go?
“I find it bizarre we have two events on the same weekend.”
