Traffic fears over retrospective Arborfield plan

By Laura Herbert
January 15, 2013

Objectors fear changing the use of land in Arborfield could cause traffic chaos.

Retrospective plans have been sent to Wokingham Borough Council to change the use of several units at Woodlands Farm, in Wood Lane, to business and storage use and for parking.

Part of the site already has permission for commercial use, but neighbours fear if the application is granted by the planning committee tonight, it will cause congestion in nearby School Road.

The council received 19 letters of objection, stating Wood Lane is unsuitable for HGVs and raising fears about noise and the potential danger to horse riders, as well as children travelling to and from school, as lorries will use the site during school hours.

Barkham Parish Council opposes the plans due to its countryside location, which it says would lead to highway safety issues, although Arborfield & Newland Parish Council had no objection.

The planning meeting will be held at the civic offices in Shute End from 7pm.
