By Jon Nurse
January 11, 2013

Thieves made off with £5,000 of cigarettes when they raided a village store.

Masked raiders smashed through the window of the Central Convenience Store in The Street, Hurst, shortly after 3am on Thursday morning.

The window was repaired by 3pm that day.

The store has previously been targeted twice in the last six years by armed robbers.

The minimum that a store can purchase from a wholesaler is ten packs (200) of any variety. If they carry more than that for their more popular varieties and need to hold at least 40 varieties, then this equates to the amount a small store needs to hold.

I reckon £5K equates to around 14000 cigarettes or 700 packs of 20. That seems a lot of tabacco for a small village store to carry.
