Learn more about road closures in nine-week water work programme

By Laura Herbert
January 11, 2013

A drop-in session to discuss South East Water’s mains upgrade programme takes place on Monday as work is due to move into Broad Street.

The £2 million project to upgrade 7.1km of the town’s water mains is expected to move into Broad Street from Monday, February 11, for around five weeks, before continuing into Shute End for a further four weeks.

While the work takes place engineers will close Broad Street and use a one-way system, while Shute End will be shut during the works.

The company is hosting a drop-in session to answer any questions at Wokingham Borough Council’s offices, in Shute End, between 3.30pm and 6.30pm on Monday.

James Smith, South East Water delivery manager, said: “We are keen to speak to residents and businesses so we can work with them to try to reduce the impact of our construction on the town.

“So far the scheme has been going extremely well and we have been working hard to minimise disruption. However, we are aware that as work starts in Broad Street next month and then Shute End in March there will be more impact on the area.”

Councillor Keith Baker, executive member for highways and planning at Wokingham Borough Council, added: “I would urge everyone to attend.

“This will be the third drop-in session the company has held.

“The meetings have proved an invaluable way to gather information from the public while giving residents a chance to learn more about the project.”
