Shoppers take part in free lung tests

By Jon Nurse
January 07, 2013

Shoppers stopped for free lung tests as a community team raised awareness of respiratory issues.

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s community respiratory team offered free lung age tests at the Asda superstore in Lower Earley.

The team was marking World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day with a stand at the store, stressing the importance of picking up the respiratory condition early.

The visit’s message was ‘It’s not too late’, stating it’s not too late to take the test if you’re short of breath or to live an active life if you’ve been diagnosed.

COPD is a lung disease that blocks the airways, making breathing difficult.

NHS Choices estimates that two million people in the UK have the condition without being aware of it.
