Fireworks light up Winnersh for Christmas
December 13, 2012
Fireworks lit up the skies above Winnersh as the borough mayor switched on the town’s Christmas lights on Friday.
Families browsed festive stalls at Bearwood Recreation Ground in Mole Road and listened to carols by children from Bearwood Primary School.
Borough mayor Councillor Bob Wyatt said: “It was a very nice occasion with mulled wine and plenty of Christmas spirit.
“I always enjoy going to Winnersh because they are all so friendly there.”
Winnersh councillor Ted Cooke added: “It was a really good evening and the children from Bearwood did very well.”
Free mulled wine and mince pies from Winnersh Parish Council were lapped up by seasonal shoppers before the borough mayor transformed the ground into a winter wonderland.
A raffle raised more than £70 for the borough mayor’s chosen charity, the Link Visiting Scheme.
