Woodley mum takes on ultra-marathon challenge

By Jon Nurse
November 28, 2012

A mum-of-three has started a 150-mile challenge raising money for a human rights charity.

Alex Portwine, of Bodmin Road, is tackling seven races in six months after she was ‘bitten by the running bug’ when her youngest son was born in 2010.

In October she started a challenge of running 150 race miles, including two 50km ultra marathons and two marathons, finishing with the Virgin London Marathon in April.

“After the recent shooting of Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai I decided to raise money for Amnesty International along the way,” she said. “It’s a movement of ordinary people that produces extraordinary results.”

The next leg of the challenge is the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon on Sunday, December 23.
