Flooding forces road closures

By Jon Nurse
November 23, 2012

Heavy rain overnight has forced the closure of two roads this morning.

Sandford Lane in Woodley and Emmbrook Road in Wokingham are closed due to flooding.

The Lands End Ford in Park Lane, Charvil, remains closed due to raised river levels.

The Loddon Bridge Park and Ride will be closed today and tomorrow following a flood alert issued by the Environment Agency.

Firefighters were also called to Waterloo Road last night to deal with a flood.

The crew from Wokingham were called at around 11pm, to find the road had flooded due to a blocked drain.

Working with contractors from Wokingham Borough Council, they had to temporarily close the road so they could remove the leaves blocking the drain.

The road was re-opened at around midnight.

There were no issues with flooding in Bracknell and the Royal Berkshire Fire Service reports there have been no serious problems across Berkshire.

The area's boat and crew have been deployed to Gloucestershire to help firefighters in the south west.

As of yet, the crew have not been deployed.

The Met Office says the weather today will be drier but is predicting more heavy rain for the weekend.

Due to the ground being so wet already, the Environment Agency is warning there could be flooding problems this weekend.

Drivers are warned to only travel if it's necessary during the rain and high winds and to not attempt to cross flooded roads and avoid fords.
