The George pub steps up security after car break-ins

By Julie Spencer
November 21, 2012

A pub is stepping up its security after thieves broke into two cars parked outside on Monday.

Windows on a Peugeot and a Smart car were smashed open around 8pm, the second raid on vehicles in the car park of The George in

Earley in less than two weeks.

Police have not said what was taken, but duty manager Courtney Williams said more lighting would be installed to deter thieves.

Police were called to the Chef & Brewer pub on Wokingham Road during the weekly quiz night. A spokesman for Spirit Pub Company

said: “Unfortunately two cars were targeted by criminals while parked at The George.

“The police were called immediately and all guests were asked to check their cars for any damage or signs of missing goods.

“We are co-operating with the police and their investigations, and will provide additional CCTV supervision over the coming months to prevent this activity happening again.”

Did the police attend on the night the incident's happened? Also, it might be an idea for the bar staff, depending on how busy they are, to carry out random checks on the car park. This might reassure the loyal customers that they are actually doing something about it. Actions speak louder than words!!

.... and the Tie-breaker at the quiz next week is "Why has hardly anyone risked coming to the quiz this week?" No lighty, no takings.

This is not the first time cars have been attacked and goods stolen from this car park.

Each time they have promised to step up and failed miserably.

Can we have a statement from the Spirit Pub Company and the facts as to EXACTLY how many times this has happened?

Watch this space and listen to the silence!!!
