A FORMER fire station in Sonning will be transformed into new homes after plans were given the go-ahead.
The site, which has been redundant for four years, will be partially demolished, converted and extended into a three-bedroom home with a garage, while land behind the site in Pound Lane will be used to build a four-bedroom house with a garage.
The plans were given unanimous approval by Wokingham Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, November 14, despite nine letters of objection from neighbours and Sonning Parish Council and concerns from Sonning and Sonning Eye Society.
During the meeting, Councillor Mike Haines, ward member for Sonning, said: “This is an important and unique site.
“I want the committee to be sure this is the best use in line with the borough’s design guide.
“There is some thought in Sonning that it may be better to have one large house on the site.”
