Neighbours allowed home after Lower Earley gas leak

November 14, 2012

Householders have returned to their homes after streets in Lower Earley were evacuated because of a gas leak.

A 150-metre cordon was thrown around the Brookside Surgery, in Brookside Close, at about 11.20 this morning after a car smashed into the front of the building and ruptured a gas main.

About 50 people were evacuated from the surgery and a number of nearby residents were asked to leave their homes for about 90 minutes while firefighters, police officers and gas engineers made the area safe. Nobody was injured.

All the roads around the area were re-opened at about 1.40pm and staff at the surgery are now trying to return business back to normal.
