One-way system in place in Shute End from today

By Laura Herbert
November 12, 2012

A one-way system will be in place in Shute End from today as South East Water continues work to upgrade the town's water mains.

The system will be one-way Bracknell bound and is expected to be in place for two weeks as part of the company's £2 million project.

The diversion will be via Rectory Road, Wiltshire Road, Peach Street, Denmark Street, Wellington Road and Station Road.

Traffic was a nightmare yesterday; the centre of town was practically inaccessible.

have just driven around the town and i see what you are talking about.the signage is terrible.there were 2 police officers in peach street and even they were shaking there heads at what was happening.the traffic is going along broad street and then being diverted into rectory road.wiltshere road and peach street in a complete circle.if its chaos at 2.30 what will it be like in the rush hour?

Why is there no clear signage diverting traffic down Denmark Street? Yes there are signs by All Saints Church telling you that Denmark Street is closed in the Reading direction but how many people actually know where Shute End actually is.

The small "diversion" sign outside the town hall needs urgent replacement by one telling Reading traffic to go down Denmark Street.

I was at a meeting this morning where almost all of the people attending had got to end of Broad Street to find themselves diverted and thus going all the way round and along Peach Street for a second time.

Diversion? Assuming you are going west out of town intending to travel down Reading Rd rather than the station Why would you go that way rather than Glebelands - Holt Lane/Emmbrook.
