Safety switch cuts power to thousands of homes

By Jon Nurse
November 08, 2012

Thousands of homes in Wokingham and Finchampstead lost power for around an hour after a safety switch was activated.

More than 2,300 properties were hit by a power cut at 10.45am.

A Southern Electric spokeswoman said: "The loss of power was due to safety equipment activated on the network believed to be in the Finchampstead area.

"Engineers restored the power remotely from the control room. Power was brought back in stages, with all supplies restored by 11.43am.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The question that needs to be answered is why Wokingham has suffered so many power cuts in the last few months. This is just one in a long series of cuts. We have had two this year.
