Optalis is on target to succeed
November 02, 2012
A council-owned company has made a stronger start than was forecast.
Optalis, set up to manage the borough’s provision of social care, is on course to beat its targets this year.
Councillor Mike Gore asked if Optalis was likely to make a profit in its first 12 months, at last Thursday’s meeting of Wokingham Borough Council’s executive.
Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner, executive member for health and wellbeing, explained that when the company was set up it expected to make a loss of £200,000 in its first year.
He added: “It has outperformed the business case and is on track to deliver a balanced budget at the end of this trade year.
“This will put it in a strong position to deliver in the next two years.”
