Wokingham Lib Dems call for government to scrap affordable housing law change

By Jon Nurse
October 26, 2012

Liberal Democrats in Wokingham have joined calls for the Government to scrap plans that would lead to the renegotiation of affordable housing levels from developers.

A Government consultation has been looking at adjusting planning laws and relax rules on developments having to include affordable housing.

Councillor Prue Bray, leader of Wokingham Liberal Democrats, said: “Wokingham has a huge shortage of affordable housing. The Lib Dems are united in opposing the idea of allowing developers to wriggle out of obligations they have already agreed to.

“Liberal Democrats in local Government have also been making clear our opposition to the Government plans to allow larger extensions to be built without planning permission and look forward to sending back a similar response on that issue as well.”
