Woodley Lawn Tennis Club housing plan for former site

A tennis club hopes that a planning application for five homes on its former site will lead to improvements for its new home.

Maultway Homes Ltd wants to build five detached homes on Woodley Lawn Tennis Club’s old courts and pavilion in Silver Fox Crescent.

The club left the site this year to join Wokingham Tennis Club at its new home in Sindlesham.

Woodley Lawn Tennis Club trustee Ricky Taylor said: “If the planning application goes through it will be sold and the money will be put into extra facilities at the new club.

“It could be invested in lighting, which costs about £32,000, and is very important in the winter.

“The move to the new site has been fantastic. In Woodley we had less than 20 members and in Wokingham they had about 40, but now we have more than 260 members.

“We have a superb clubhouse over there and more than 70 juniors, when before we had none.”
