Poetry competition winners decided

The winners of the borough’s poetry competition have been announced.

More than 40 entries, inspired by the theme stars, were submitted to Wokingham borough libraries to celebrate National Poetry Day.

Poet AF Harrold presented prizes to the winners at Wokingham Library, in Denmark Street, on Thursday, October 4.

Helen Curtis was named the adult winner for her poem Desert Night, while Barry Newport with his entry Morning Stars and Sonnet to a Star by Alan Jones were highly commended.

Sohini Basu, five, won the children’s five to seven years category with Twinkle, Twinkle Star while Annabel Hamer, nine, won the eight to 11 years category with her entry The Diving Belle.

The winner of the teenager aged 12 to 14 section was Rosalind Byard, 14, for her poem The Star, and Emily Scott, 17, won the 15 to 17 years category for her entry titled Star.
