Fundraisers raise £254 from Ollie Young Foundation events

Shoppers sprang into the Christmas spirit and raised money for the Ollie Young Foundation in a series of charity evenings at Purple Butterfly fashion boutique.

Four festive shopping evenings took place from Monday, October 1, to Thursday, October 4, at the Denmark Street store and raised £254 for the foundation, which aims to fund research into brain tumours.

Ollie’s parents Sarah and Simon Young, of Woosehill, launched the foundation in memory of their son, who died in February this year just a day before his sixth birthday after being diagnosed with a rare brain tumour.

Purple Butterfly owner Germaine Kelly said: “Ollie’s grandmother came along as well which was lovely.

“We only opened in January and as it is coming up to Christmas we wanted to support a children’s charity as well as Helen & Douglas House.”

Deputy mayor Councillor UllaKarin Clark drew the raffle on Thursday, October 4.

Mrs Kelly added: “More people came to support the event than I expected. I think it gave people the opportunity to come and have a look and get some ideas for Christmas.”

The Ollie Young Foundation was launched in June and supports Helen & Douglas House hospice and childhood cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
