Head-on smash in Barkham Road

By Jon Nurse
October 06, 2012

A driver was cut free from his car after a head-on collision in Barkham Road last night.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, suffered injuries to his chest, neck and leg after a smash near a humpback bridge.

The driver of the second car suffered minor injuries.

Crews from Wokingham and Wokingham Road fire stations were sent to the bridge at around 10.45pm.

Wokingham fire station watch manager Neil Polding said: "Two cars collided by the bridge - a small hatchback and a larger estate car.

"When we arrived we found one man was trapped and the driver of the other vehicle had got out and was being treated by ambulance staff.

"The trapped man needed to be taken from the car on a backboard so we cut the roof off the car with hydraulic cutting equipment. He was then taken to hospital.

"There was substantial damage to the front of both cars and it looked like the smaller car was definitely a write off."

The road was closed by police for around an hour.
