Optalis launch Braille printing service.

By Laura Herbert
October 01, 2012

A Braille printing service has been launched in Wokingham.

The visual impairment (VI) team at Optalis can now convert Microsoft Word documents into hard copy Braille, a system of reading and writing used by the blind or visually impaired.

Susan Culley, VI team support officer, said: “We’re pleased to launch this service and we want to make it available to a much wider audience than the Wokingham area. We’re interested in offering this facility to local authorities, job centres, libraries, and Citizens’ Advice Bureaus so people with a visual impairment can gain access to information, which promotes a sense of independence.”

Optalis was set up by Wokingham Borough Council last year to manage the borough’s provision of social care. Anyone interested should call (0118) 974 6896.
