Wokingham is the best place to bring up a family in the country

Wokingham is the place to be to bring up children according to a new report naming three areas in the borough in a top 20 of family friendly areas.

The annual survey from Family Investments, a family financial services company, places Wokingham, Woodley and Twyford in its top 20 of the best areas for young families.

Wokingham itself was in first place, with Woodley second and Twyford in 17th place.Staff from the company analysed seven criteria including quality of schools, local crime figures and property affordability to place the three areas into its top ten.

It also considered lifestyle factors like parks and green spaces, leisure centres, zoos and farms and museums and theatres.

The report says: "Wokingham is a market town and civil parish in Berkshire situated 33 miles west of central London, with a population of over 30,000.

"It is well-equipped with various facilities from a range of private and state schools to several churches and an art gallery.

What is more, transport to London Waterloo takes little over an hour, making it an ideal home for commuters.

"The postcode scores well as a result of its excellent schools and childcare provision, and low level of crime.

"Consequently, it is a very popular area for young families."

Do you foresee WBC and WTC claiiming credit for this. I think it is amazing in spite of WBC's efforts to 'remove' Bulmershe 'common' and open space and the support for overdevelopment of Woodley and total failure to update the infrastrucure, WTC's efforts to build monuments to their existance and subsequent commercialisation of Oakwood, etc etc etc. Be interesting to hear what 'they' feel they have contributed. Knocking down schools and putting up new buildings, increasing debt, doesn't raise the standards previously achieved and set by BCC.

'It also considered lifestyle factors like parks and green spaces' - Take note WBC. Shopping is no longer the leisure pursuit of families that it once was.
