Swimmers help raise national total of £2.3 million

Swimmers in a charity swimathon at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre chipped in to help a national fundraising total reached £2.3m.

This spring 84 swimmers dived into Swimathon Weekend 2012 at the centre in Rushey Way and raised £7,252 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.

Centre contract manager Tony Penge said: “We are delighted that so many people took part and thrilled with how much money we were able to raise for Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.Swimathon Weekend was a really fun event to organise, and it brought out a fantastic community spirit at the pool.

“We are looking forward to being part of Swimathon next year and an even bigger turnout.”

Event organisers announced the total raised from the 645 pools that took part nationwide has reached £2.3m. To register interest in Swimathon 2013 visit www.swimathon.org.
