Find out more about borough's recycling scheme

By Laura Herbert
September 13, 2012

A series of drop-in sessions about the borough’s waste and recycling scheme take place this week.

The sessions are designed for people to ask questions about the scheme, find out about it success so far and receive tips. The scheme, which launched on Monday, April 2, came into force because or rising landfill taxes and Government targets to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Since its launch until the end of June, recycling across Wokingham has increased by 32 per cent.

After some people complained recently about binman mixing waste, I watched them collect in my street. Sure enough, one binman put a load of recycling into his wheelie bin, then blue bags, then more recycling, then more blue bags, then loaded the whole bin into the same side of the lorry. I was incensed! That's my council tax and my efforts he so casually wasted and ignored. I will be watching every collection I'm home to witness from now and will complain to the council every single time I see this happen.

Recycling up 32%?? It'd be up 70% if they employed binmen who actually cared.
