Torchbearer raises £2,617 for hospice after torch sale

By Jon Nurse
September 12, 2012

A town torchbearer is preparing to post her Olympic memento across the Channel, having raised £2,617.75 for charity.

Erica Betton, 28, of Woosehill Lane, sold her torch on ebay last week to someone in France.

She will give 95 per cent to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, with the remainder going towards her charity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro for the hospice next month. She said: “I had a lot of messages from ebay users who wrote to wish me good luck and the support around the auction was amazing.

“I’ve now got to say goodbye to the torch and pack it on it’s way, which I’m sure will be an odd experience.

“It’s done what I hoped it would do and that’s raise a lot of money for a worthwhile charity. I’m genuinely over the moon.”
