Hockey Club hoping for new faces

By Julie Spencer
September 11, 2012

A hockey club hopes to harness the Olympic spirit to encourage more players to join its ranks.

Wokingham Hockey Club held an open day on Saturday where both beginners and returners could take part in mini matches and training sessions.

Pip Tanner, the club’s external relations manager, said: “This year we decided that with the Olympics we should have a concerted effort to get more players.

“After the open day we have one woman who looks set to join one of our teams and four or five men who are interested. We are a very sociable club and organise lots of after-match fun activities.”

The club is holding another open tournament at its Cantley Field ground in Twyford Road on Saturday between 11am and 1pm.

Anyone who would like to try hockey can join in. For details go to www.wokingham-hc.co.uk.
