Woosehill vet drops appeal
By Jon NurseSeptember 07, 2012
A veterinary surgeon jailed for animal cruelty this summer dropped his appeal against his conviction and sentence this morning.
Awuah Ohene-Gyan had appealed against a 21 week jail sentence delivered in July after he left injured animals lying in agony in pools of their own urine and faeces at his Woosehill Vets practice in Emmview Close.
Ohene-Gyan also owned Ashlyn House vets surgery in Binfield, but the prosecution centred around the Woosehill surgery.
He decided to drop the appeal against the conviction yesterday afternoon before revealing he would drop the appeal altogether this morning.
'Worst vet care I've seen in 33 years' says RSPCA inspector
Jon Mitchell, defending Ohene-Gyan, requested for an adjournment on Thursday for Ohene-Gyan to be seen by a psychiatrist.
Speaking at court this morning, Mr Mitchell said: "Having raised the prospect of psychological assessment I will pursue that through the prison service."
