Old Bath Road closure extended

By Jon Nurse
August 30, 2012

The closure of Old Bath Road in Twyford has been extended by a further nine days as steelwork is altered on a severely corroded bridge.

Maintenance works on two bridges began in July and were scheduled to take three weeks, however this latest delay means closure will have been for at least seven.

A Wokingham Borough Council spokesman said: "An additional delay has been caused by the need to redesign some of the steelwork required for the severely corroded White Bridge.

"Whilst the design could be carried out relatively quickly, the time for the fabricators to make and treat the steel sections was beyond our control. "Unfortunately this resulted in a period on the site where no work could progress, but we were unable to reopen the road safely."

The project is anticipated to be completed by Sunday, September 9, however works may continue under traffic lights for a further two weeks.

The road closure had been due to end tomorrow, after three weeks were added to its original schedule when a high pressure water main was uncovered in a concrete surround.
