Paul Daniels to reveal his magic secrets

By Victoria Smith
August 24, 2012

TV magician Paul Daniels will reveal the secrets of his mystical act to his very own class of sorcerer’s apprentices at his Wargrave home.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant will welcome students into his home, which he shares with wife and former assistant Debbie McGee, where he will reveal the tricks of his trade.

The 74-year-old said: “For a very long time I have been asked questions on Facebook and Twitter, by email and at big events like this convention in 70 countries I have just been on.

“I thought I would run this for a small group of 10 people.

“I seem to have gathered all this knowledge and I thought it would be nice to pass that along.”

The entertainer feared his career would suffer when he chopped off two fingers while using a circular saw at his home in January.

His index finger was reattached by surgeons, but the top of a third digit could not be saved.

Having recovered from the trauma, Mr Daniels, whose Paul Daniels Magic Show ran on BBC from 1979 to 1994, has launched the new money-making scheme.

Budding magicians can demonstrate their act to Mr Daniels, who will critique them and offer pointers.

He will also answer questions about his own magic skills and reveal how he performs baffling stage tricks.

Mr Daniels said: “I will offer honest feedback to people.

“I wouldn’t be like Simon Cowell, but I always think there is a right way to do criticism.

“They will get trade secrets.”

Two of the eight Magic Days classes, costing £120 each, have already sold out.

Shirley, if Mr. Daniels was magic as he claims to be, he could wave his wand and a big pile of notes would instantly appear. oh, and McGee - NO. Vorderman - YES.

   Bruce I know.

I applied for a shop assistant job at Pets at Home and even got turned-down for that ! They wanted to know (on the application) if I was a pet what animal would I be and why. I said I'd be an ant. Because if aliens were to visit earth they'd obviously contact the most prolific animal on the planet and that'd be the ants and that I wanted to meet the aliens and get all their computer secrets and ray-guns.

They didn't say why I didn't get the job, just that I "wasn't successful this time" ... ... ... "this time"? That implies I might be successful 'next time' surely - I could be on to something here.

Yes, I can see it now, one night with the lovely Debbie McGee, and only £120 smackers. After a long day of pulling cards from sleeves and tissues from balls in mouth, Paul makes his excuses and goes to bed early. Debbie raids the drinks cabinet (she has a key unknown to Paul). After 3 fine scotch she relaxes and gets flirty with me. The other guests disappear (I don't know where - this is a dream). Debbie "slips into something more comfortable" and sits beside me on the pouffe by the smoldering fire. We sip single malts and chat, her night dress falls open but she doesn't attempt to cover-up ...... oh hang-on back later, the brunette wants me to go shopping to Aldi with her .....

As Mrs Merton (Caroline Aherne) once asked her:

"So Debbie, what was it that first attracted you to the multi-millionaire Paul Daniels?"
