New Trust to take charge of borough’s leisure centres

August 21, 2012

The borough’s leisure centres will be run by new management from this month.

Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, in Lower Earley, and St Crispin’s and Carnival Pool leisure centres in Wokingham, will now be run by C-SALT, a community sports and leisure trust linked to Leisure Connection, the borough’s leisure contractor since 1999.

Councillor Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said: “The not-for-profit arrangement, with any surplus cash going back into the arrangement to improve the facilities, will bring new opportunities to meet the needs of our residents and to help build on the exciting success and interest generated from the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.”

So it'll now be handled by a company linked to another company that already works with local leisure centres. Who managed the leisure centres before? how many bodies, organisations and executives does it take to run a leisure centre? Who benefits?

Thanks for posting the link, Anonymous, but that's just the company's marketing gumph, it means nothing. Every company has a website that says 'we're the best in the world at what we do, love us' - never means anything.

Agreed PR. Is this another one of those complex arrangements that seems to require non-executive directors, who are councillors, to be paid more money than they were getting when they did the job before as part of their council responsibilities?

But why has this change happened? How will this change benefit the people who use the facilities? Could it even inconvenience them through a change in the way they run or cost? If there is no benefit to the users, the company or the council, it wouldn't have been done at all.

What a useless report! What will the effect of this change be? Why has it been done?

We rely on reports like this to give us this sort of information.
