Bingo hall reverts to Ritz

August 15, 2012

A Wokingham bingo hall is reverting back to its old name and former owners as of Friday.

The hall in Easthampstead Road, which Ray Hopkin opened in 1975, will be renamed Ritz Bingo as previous owners Wokingham Ritz take over the running of the club once more.

Gala Bingo currently runs the hall, but has come to the end of its lease. The takeover by Wokingham Ritz has saved 20 jobs that may otherwise have been lost.

Robin Keston, former manager who ran the Ritz club from 1980 until Gala bought out the Ritz chain, said: “We believe Wokingham can support a viable bingo hall and think it’s a valuable part of the local community.

“I loved my time at Wokingham and just knew we should mount some sort of bid to save the Ritz from being boarded up.”

The club is open every evening and four afternoons a week.
