Bingham brewery teams up with US counterpart The Library

August 14, 2012

A skiing holiday has led to a collaboration between Binghams brewery in Ruscombe and a microbrewery in the United States.

Chris Bingham is sending out the first casks of Rattlesnake Rye PA to pubs this week while his Brickworks Bitter will go on sale in Winter Park, Colorado.

The swapping of beer recipes was the result of a meeting in March between Mr Bingham and his partner Michelle Joyce with Mitch Kunce who runs The Library microbrewery in Winter Park.

Mr Bingham said: “We were having a drink in The Library and I noticed the brewer checking the beer and I introduced myself. We got talking and decided it would be nice to introduce his beers over here.

“We chatted by email and have exchanged recipes which we hope will benefit both of us.”

Mr Bingham had to import hops from the US and describes the Rattlesnake Rye PA has having a ‘distinctive bite’ while Mr Kunce imported hops and malt from the UK to get the genuine Binghams taste.

The brew will go on sale at The Ale House and The Nag’s Head in Reading and the Bird in Knowl Hill on August 10.

Shipping beer to/from the USA? Yeah, that makes good sense in terms of the size of the carbon footprint.
