Olympic efforts by youths
August 03, 2012
Young people from nine youth projects have created murals inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The murals, on display at Wokingham Library, represent the unity and understanding that young people have about the importance of sport and are based on the Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality. Fifty-seven people took part in the project from Acorns Youth Club, Barkham Youth Club, Finchampstead Young Girls Dreamz Club, The Friday Drop-In, Norreys Youth Club, Rainbow Youth Club, Wokingham Baptist Church Youth Club, Wokingham Friday Club and Wokingham Life Skills Group.
Richard Ferguson, Wokingham Borough Council’s area youth worker manager, said: “Young people have enormous talent and passion, this mural is a great reflection of this and the collaborations that exist between youth groups.”
A celebration event takes place at Wokingham Library on August 11, from 10.30am, the day before the closing ceremony.
