EASI streets are clean thanks to volunteers

August 02, 2012

Volunteers who keep the streets of Earley clean celebrated their hard work at their annual get-together.

Members of the Earley Adopt-a-Street Initiative (EASI) met at the Radstock Lane Community Centre on July 11 to enjoy a bite to eat and meet other residents.

The scheme, founded in March 2010 by Peter Soul and Brian Hackett, now has 218 volunteers.

Mr Soul said: “It was very successful. The main thing is people bring food and share it and have a good chin-wag while they’re doing it.

“It also demonstrates the support we get from both councils – Earley Town and Wokingham borough. Wokingham Borough Council provide most of the equipment for us and Earley Town Council support us because we’re keeping the town clean.

“We’re doing things neither council couldn’t possibly even though they try their best.

“We get enquiries from all over the Wokingham borough and even one or two from further afield.”

If you would like to volunteer to keep your street litter-free, call Mr Soul on (0118) 926 4997.
