Could you sparkle as a star poet?
July 19, 2012
Poets can put some sparkle into their verse by writing about stars to celebrate National Poetry Day.
Wokingham borough libraries are inviting children and adults to write a poem inspired by stars – of the celebrity or astronomical kind.
Heather Dyson, outreach development officer for the borough’s libraries, said: “We had some wonderful poetry submitted into the children’s competition last year.
“This year we decided to open it up to all ages and hope to get some creative and exciting entries.
“Local poet AF Harrold has agreed to host the adult celebration evening on October 4 to mark National Poetry Day.
“We hope it will be a wonderful evening of hearing the entries submitted and some of AF Harrold’s work. We will also be doing a prizegiving for children and young people earlier in the day.”
Book vouchers, sponsored by Chapter One Bookshop in Woodley, will be awarded to the winning entries in the three categories: aged 19 and over, aged between 12 and 18, and aged 11 and under.
Entry forms are available at any Wokingham borough library and verses must be submitted by Saturday, September 8.
